1. Electronic Environmental Exchange Programme:
The deteriorating urban environment raises several questions not just among adults but children too. Those related to the quality of the water supplied and the ecological health of the rivers form one of the fundamental issues. The Mutha -Mula rivers are not only the most important sources of water supply to the city, but also perform vital environmental functions ,like controlling pollution in the city, draining away all the biotic and chemical wastes etc. and generally impacting upon the environment of the city. If the rivers along with their ecological constraints are understood by the youth, they are likely to gain a fair insight into the environmental challenges that their city faces which would go a long way into moulding them into a responsible, informed citizens and professionals.
With this end in view, Gomukh, Pune and Both-Ends, Amsterdam are hosting an interactive exchange program on water between students of Pune and students of Gauda over the internet. All water related issues, ranging from festivals related to water, availability of water in the city, quality of river water, the ecological functions performed by the river ,flora ,fauna along the river etc will be dealt with. Interaction with the Dutch children would include the way they look at rivers, lakes and water in general, the uses they put the river to , for e.g. bird -watching and water sports. This is likely to broaden the children`s intuitive understanding of rivers etc. in their own city.. Presently an exchange on students perception of Mula-Mutha River System in Pune and the Ijssel River which flows through the city of Gauda in Holland is underway.
2. Encyclopedia of Sustainability:
Encyclopaedia of Sustainability is a joint project of Gomukh Trust and Both ENDS (Netherlands). The objective of the project is to document, strengthen and present the examples of initiatives which are undertaken by groups which often operate in relative anonymity. The ‘Encyclopaedia’ aims to enable these organisations and alliances to offer tangible examples of local solutions and alternatives in the field of land and water management. We have selected cases from Asia, Africa, South America which present viable alternatives to often damaging mainstream development projects or to undesirable socio-economic developments.
3. National Environmental Awareness Campaign:
Gomukh has been a part of this pioneering scheme for three years. In 2006, more than 200 schools and Gram Panchyats were covered under the project wherein subject experts from Gomukh made presentations and explained facts about solid waste management, vermicomposting, etc.
4. Environment Education Project for Municipality Schools in Pimpri-Chinchwad:
We have initiated a project with 18 Municipality Schools in Pimpri-Chinchwad Corporation on Environment Education. Resource Persons from Gomukh Trust have been conducting lectures in the schools on various issues like Pollution, conservation, studying local flora and fauna of Pimpri-Chinchwad, etc.
