Soil and Water Conservation Works

1. Watershed Development in Kolwan Valley of Mulshi Block Pune District :

Gomukh is working in 17 villages of Kolwan Valley of Mulshi Block in Pune district since 1995. The River Walki is flowing through the Kolwan valley. Before starting the Watershed development work the river was dry for the 6 months of the year, and the villagers were facing the drinking water problem. Gomukh Started the Watershed development program in 1995 in this area and completed the soil and water conservation works. In 1st phase the program has covered a population of about 12,000 people of 10 villages out of 17 villages in Kolvan valley by constructing 11 cement bunds, 2 earthen bunds, excavating 80 farm-ponds, 3 water impounding structures, besides digging contour trenches and planting trees over an area of 150 Ha. of barren land, and raising 800 smaller 'dry-rubble' bunds.
After completing this program the River Walki is now perennial with a base flow throughout the year.

2. Natural Spring Development in Kolwan:

Gomukh Trust has identified 121 natural perennial spring in the valley. Of these 121 springs, Gomukh Trust has developed six natural springs. At two of these springs at Bhalagudi and Walen, Gomukh Trust has provided assistance for installing a drinking water supply scheme. The springs being situated at a higher altitude than the villages, the water is supplied by gravity to these villages.

3. Drought Prone Area Development Program ( DPAP ) :

Gomukh is implementing Drought Prone Area development program with District Rural Development Agency, Pune. The program aims to develop soil and water conservation works in the project area, (which include CCT, forestation, Plantation, Plantation on Farm Bunds, Gabion Structure, Gabion with core wall, Farm Ponds, Loose Bolder, Percolation tank, Gated Bandhara, Earthen Dams, Cement Dams, K.T. Wair construction). The program is being implemented in two stages. in 1st stage 10 villages of Kolawan valley were included. In next stage the program is being implemented in 10 villages. out which works in 4 villages of Kolwan valley were completed and works in 6 villages from Haveli and Bhor blocks of Pune district are in progress. Total 8000 hect. area was treated under this project.

4. Sampurna Gramin Swarojgar Yojana ( SGRY ):

Gomukh completed 27 works under this project. Which includes CCT, Farm ponds, Rock tanks, Earthen Nala Bunds in Mulshi, Haveli, Bhor and Junner block of Pune districts. Total 700 hect. area is treated under this program.

5. Watershed Development Program:

This program was implemented on 350 hect in Shivare, Varve ( Bk.), Varve ( Kh) in association with CAPART, new Delhi. The main components of the program was afforestration, fodder development, terrace bunds, Plantation on Farm Bund, Hortipasture, reforestation, gully Plugging, Loose Boulder, Gabion Bandhars, Farm Ponds, Percolation Tank, Gated Bandharas, Check Dams. The beneficiaries actively contributed 10 % project cost in the form of Shramadan and providing the material, like stone, sand and the transport.

6. Drought Proofing Program (DPP):

The project was implemented in village Wadgaon Ghenand and Gothe from Mulshi and Khed block of Pune district which includes the 2 well deepening for drinking water, repairing of two old Nala bunds, repairing of two old farm ponds, construction of 5 check dams, construction of 2 farm ponds, 500 gully plugs, 100 loose bolder, farm bunding 110 hect. and nursery raising etc.

7. Saline land Reclamation Project (SLRP-II):

Project implementation is scheduled Oct 2001 to to last till June-2005. The Khar Land Development Circle (KLDC) of the irrigation Department is the main implementing agency. The aim of the project is to develop the saline lands on sea showers of the Thane, Raigad and Sindhudurg district. Phase II of SLRP was expected to assist 23,400 households related to rehabilitation and/or new Khar Lands Schemes and 42,600 households through agricultural , fisheries and women development related interventions, in total around 330,000 persons. There were fourteen project components were designed to provide effective support for smooth implementation of the project.

Our Performance
Total 84 Kharland User Association were formed and registered in three districts. 74 Self Help Groups were formed and their primary training and income generation training were completed. Agriculture development program was implemented on the total 100 Hect., Mangrove plantation was completed on about 175 Hect. Mangrove awareness programs were completed. Under Fishery development program Paddy cum fish development plots were developed on the 128 Hect., about 133 farmers were benefited from this Program. Fresh water fishery developed on 118 hect of land, and Nala culture was developed on 168 hect. in three districts.

8. Holistic Watershed development Program:

Gomukh is working as a Project implementation agency (PIA) for the project "Holistic Watershed Development Program" supported by NABARD, in the 7 villages of Ambapur and Giva Cluster of Washim district in Vidarbha region, since last 6 months. The project area is about 6000 Hect.
